New Room Themes and Commands

RockBot has a new feature where we can set a certain theme in the room to play songs by.  Here is a list of the types of themes we currently offer and their rules.
Just type /rock theme and RB will respond with the current theme and rules if they have been defined.  If there is no theme currently running then RB will tell you.
If you would like to begin a theme in the room just contact one of our awesome mods to turn the feature on!

  • connect = Connect the songs by using a word in the artist or song title
    • Your song MUST contain a word from the previous one played.  This can be taken from the artist or song title.
    • It can be a full or partial word.  But cannot be words like 'it', 'and', 'to', 'an', 'at' etc.
    • If you use partial words from the previous song they must contain at least 4 letters.
    • You can translate numbers into words e.g. BFMV - 4 Words To Choke Upon ~~> FOUR Year Strong - Stuck In The Middle
    • DO NOT go AFK on the decks, you need to stay active and think fast for this theme.  The person in front of you may play a short song to catch you out.
    • Songs/Artists cannot be made up entirely of foreign/unpronouncable words, that's not fair!
    • Below is an example string:
    1. Black Stone Cherry – Devil’s Queen
    2. Queen  - Sheer Heart Attack
    3. Bullet For My Valentine – Hearts Burst Into Fire
    4. Greek Fire – Doesn’t Matter Anyway
    5. Metallica – Nothing Else Matters
  • color = Play any rock/metal songs that relate to a color
    • The song may have a name of a color in the title or artist, or you may somehow relate it to a specific color. If the song is questionable you may plead your case, but it's ultimately up to the active mods in the room.
  • cover = Play any rock/metal cover songs
    • A cover version or cover song, or simply cover, is a new performance or recording of a contemporary or previously recorded, commercially released song or popular song.
    • Need help finding a cover song? Check the following sites for help!
  • classic = Play 60’s-80’s rock/metal tunes only. Any songs over 9 minutes please ask first.
    • If you need help finding a particular song to fit you may go HERE.
    • Want to delve deeper? Start your search for deep tracks to fit this theme HERE.
  • female = Play any female rock/metal songs
  • abc = Play a rock/metal song that begins with the next letter of the alphabet in the artist or song title
    • The first DJ up will start by playing an artist or song title beginning with the letter A (e.g. Anthrax, As I Lay Dying etc).
    • The rest of the DJs on deck will follow by playing an artist or song title beginning with the next letter in the alphabet until the letter Z has been played.
    • Once the alphabet has been played through it will be up to the room mods/users as to whether or not they wish to start a new round or change to a different theme.
  • number = Play rock/metal songs that relate to a number in the title or artist
    • This is pretty self explanatory.  The song may have a number (either in 1,2,3, form or spelled out).  If the song is questionable you may plead your case, but it's ultimately up to the active mods in the room.
  • dice = Use RockBot’s roll command to choose a rock/metal song from your q
    • Type /rock roll to roll the dice, and whatever number he comes up with you play that song from your playlist.
    • You can set the dice limit to any number. (Example: /rock roll 20 for him to roll any number between 1 and 20).
    • If RockBot happens to roll a number that is NOT a rock or metal song you simply choose the closest rock/metal song in your list.
    • Variations to this theme include rolling a number per person, per round, per set, etc.
  •  christian = Play Christian Rock/Metal tunes
  • soundtrack = Play rock/metal tunes from soundtracks
    • Your tunes may come from commercials, TV shows, movies, video games, etc., but MUST be rock or metal in nature. Instrumentals are welcome as long as they fall under the time limit.
  • 80 = Play any rock/metal tunes from the 80’s
  • 90 = Play any rock/metal tunes from the 90’s
  •  acoustic = Play any acoustic rock/metal tunes
    • Here is a list of the top 100 acoustic songs.
  •  deep = Play deep track rock/metal tunes
    • In radio programming, a deep cut or deep track is a song which commercial radio stations rarely broadcast. I know we here on TT are always playing tunes that radio stations don't play, but when this theme is running dig in deep to find those hidden gem songs that you would love to share.
  •  alt = Play alternative rock/metal tunes
  •  industrial = Play industrial rock/metal tunes
    • Industrial rock artists generally employ the basic rock instrumentation of electric guitars, drums and bass and pair it with white noise blasts and electronic music gear (synthesizers, sequencers, samplers and drum machines). Guitars are commonly heavily distorted or otherwise treated. Bass guitars and drums may be played live, or be replaced by electronic musical instruments or computers in general. Industrial rock frequently incorporates the sounds of machinery and industry.
    • Here is a small list of industrial bands and more specifically industrial metal bands.
  •  ballad = Play rock/metal ballads
    • A ballad is a form of verse, often a narrative set to music and the term is now often used as synonymous with any love song, particularly the pop or rock power ballad.
    • Here is a list of heavy metal ballads, rock ballads, and power ballads.

Rock Stars Battle - Rules

RULES

The rules for the Rock Stars DJ Battle are pretty straightforward.  You should all be familiar with the regular room rules.  The rules for the battle are as follows:

  • Please be on time for your heat.  If you can't make it please let us know in good time.
  • Keep the tunes rock or metal.  No dub, trance, mashups or other off-genre songs.
  • Try to play songs around the 5 minute or less mark.  Definitely not over 6 minutes!
  • We want each DJ to play around 3 songs.  If DJs play 4-5 minute songs they should all get to play 3 songs in the time allowed.
  • Voting for each round will be by way of a poll.  We will post a link in chat once voting is ready to commence.
  • DJs are allowed to vote but cannot vote for themselves.  The same goes for using bot/other accounts to vote for yourself.
  • Breaking any of these rules may lead to a loss of votes or expulsion from the competition.
The most important rule is to play songs that will rock the audience and make them want to vote for you!
